UJ proved that they were a force to be reckoned with when they won their second game of the week, beating CUT by nine wickets at the Ibbies Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday afternoon.
Opening batsmen Marx de Villiers and Calvin Flanegan opened the batting for CUT and had their team off to a shaky start, both being dismissed in the first over with CUT already in a spot of bother at 9/2.
Wickets continued to fall but Thiardt Ingram stepped up when CUT needed him most, scoring an unbeaten 75 off 55 balls to carry his team over the 100-run mark.
Hannes Venter played his part and scored 29 runs to end the CUT innings at 146/5 – an impressive recovery considering the shaky foundation their openers set. Chad Classen and Connor de Boer were the pick of the UJ bowlers, both ending with two wickets to their name.
Delano Potgieter and Joshua Richards opened the batting for UJ and built up a strong partnership before Richards, who was the only UJ wicket of the day, was caught out by Delano Williams.
Potgieter carried his UJ side across the finish line, scoring an unbeaten 71 off 44 balls. His partner at the crease was Muhammed Mayet, who kept the strike rotating and his 36 runs contributed towards securing a nine-wicket triumph over the Bloemfontein side.
