Madibaz pulled off another shock victory in Port Elizabeth on Monday, beating Maties 46-36 in front of a motivated crowd to show their dominance in this year’s Varsity Netball season.
With a home semi-final on the line, Madibaz were looking pumped up in their warm-up to get onto the court and take the win and book a home semi-final.
As the game kicked off, the Maties side started off very strongly, playing on the counter after Madibaz made a few handling errors. It was point for point in the first quarter with Maties leading the whole quarter until the end finishing off 9-8 to the home side. It was all Madibaz from here on out, leading till the end.
The second quarter was dominated by Madibaz, doubling their points total to 18 while Maties added 5 more points to go into half time 5 points behind. It was all about defence at this stage, as well as the Samsung Best Shot Award winner, Bianca Blom, clinical in goal attack for Madibaz. Madibaz went into half time with the confidence and belief that they could take the win.
The third quarter was a bright fast quarter, with Madibaz extending their lead to 8 points, while Maties consistently tried to cut it down, they just made too many unforced errors. The quarter ended 31-23 to the ladies from Port Elizabeth, both sides with unused power plays in the bag.
The Madibaz came out in the final quarter with a plan and that plan paid off. They delayed the power play and managed to pull a 12-point lead over Maties before having to take their power play. This was enough as they ended up dominating the consecutive power plays to book themselves a semi-final spot with a comfortable and strong 46-36 win.

The semi-finals will be played on the 1st of October.
