We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. Varsity Football fans put the PSL to shame. If you want to see a stadium packed with die-hard fans screaming their lungs out – look no further than Thursday night Varsity Football. But which university has the best?
5. TUT

They may not have a single home match this season, but that hasn’t stopped TUT fans from backing their boys on the road. Now those are fans worth playing for.
UWC have made their home stadium a fortress in recent seasons. They don’t call it the Operation Room or the Slaughter House for nothing. On top of that, Cape Town has its rainy season during Varsity Football. But that doesn’t stop fans from turning out in their numbers to create a hostile atmosphere for the travelling teams.
3. UJ

No matter which campus UJ play at, their supporters make their way to the matches. The Orange Army have spend the 2018 season supporting their boys at the Soweto Campus. UJ could play their matches in Limpopo and you’d probably see their fans arrive in numbers.
2. NWU

The Noble Boys have undoubtedly the most passionate fans of all. The city comes to a standstill when NWU are in action and it feels as though the entire community is shouting for the men in purple. If this was measured purely on passion, NWU would have been number one.
It’s their first season of Varsity Football and they are currently bottom of the log. You’d never know that when you arrive at a UKZN match. Rain or shine, winning or losing, Durban or Pietermaritzburg – UKZN fans dress up and show up! They’ll sing and shout until their voices are gone. This is loyalty. And this is why we have rated them the number one fans of the 2018 season! They embody Iyachesa!
