NMMU coach Lukhanya Wasa wants his team to play with freedom and express themselves when they take on UCT in Cape Town next week.
The Eastern cape side got their Varsity Football campaign off to an encouraging start with a 2-0 victory over UWC away from home in the first round, but Wasa is adamant that they can raise their game.
The NMMU mentor was frustrated with his team’s performance in a goalless first half against UWC, although he admitted that they showed great character to score two second-half goals to secure the victory.
“In the first half we made the opposition look good, we were not playing our own game. But we took our opportunities well in the second half and now we have a nice foundation to build on,” he told varsitysportssa.com.
NMMU head straight back to Cape Town next week to face a UCT team that Wasa admits he knows little about.
“We are confident that we can get a result, but we do not know much about them so we will have to gather as much informantion as possible this week,” he said.
UCT started their campaign in encouraging fashion by fighting back to grab a 1-1 draw with a strong UFS team in Bloemfontein, which shows that they will not give up until the final whistle.
Wasa believes that his team’s best chance of making it two wins from their opening two games is to play with freedom and take the game to the opposition.
“I have got quite a few players with individual brilliance, so I don’t want to restrict them and we will come out firing on Monday,” he promised.
