In Round Four of the Varsity Football tournament, the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) face-off with second-placed University of Johannesburg (UJ) in a do-or-die clash
It will be a treat of a match to watch when under-pressure new boys UKZN face this season’s top flyers UJ in their do-or-die match down in Durban.
With the log now taking shape, rock-bottom team UKZN find themselves in an unfavourable position as they sit at the foot of the table with no points accumulated thus far. While, on the contrary, UJ sit comfortably in second position and with great results accumulated already.
The KZN Impi, go into this tier with the pressure to perform in order to try and save their hopes and to move up on the log. Following their three consecutive defeats, the debutants have never shown any signs of poor performance but have rather been the unfortunate side in those tiers. A failure to convert their chances and a letting in of cheap goals has been the epitome of the newcomer’s results
Learning hard from experience that the first games are most crucial in this tournament, University Sports South Africa (USSA) champions take their results from the USSA against UJ in their quest to break their duck of failing to score any point as of yet. A victory in this encounter would be a complete gamechanger to the debut team and the log at large.
UJ on the other end, come into this clash coming from a 2-1 victory against their Johannesburg city rivals Wits, and will be beaming with confidence going into this encounter as they look to claim their supremacy against UKZN for the defeat in the USSA.
Catch this match live on SuperSport 10 this Thursday at Howard College Stadium in Durban. Kick-off is at 16:00pm.
