Current Varsity Football champions Tuks hope to claim vital points as they take on the champions of USSA, UKZN in Tshwane on Thursday.
Slow beginners UP-Tuks and newcomers UKZN face off in a “Clash of Champions” match in this week’s round of Varsity Football.
The two teams can be said to be the two most under-performing teams thus far in the tournament.
Defending champions, Tuks, who are known for slow beginnings, will hope to grab all three points and continue their record of following up slow starts with breathtaking football towards as the tournament progresses. In their first match, they lost to their city rivals TUT by 2-1 and thereafter drew one-all with UJ.
Debutants and USSA champions UKZN on the other hand, will be looking to revive some sort of hope in the tournament as they will be playing their first away match ever, following their 3-2 and 2-0 home defeats to Wits and NWU respectively. At the moment they sit rock bottom of the table with no points. UKZN also have a history of coming strong towards the end of the game and will be looking to continue with that record.
The points will be crucial for both teams in the match as the two teams Tuks and UKZN are separated by just a single point between them and both have not yet tasted victory in the tournament.
The Varsity Football champions, Tuks, go into the match as the favourites, as they will be playing on home ground and are the most experienced in the tournament. UKZN will not have their guns down as they will seize the opportunity to get Tuks at their weakest and claim their first ever victory of the tournament
The match will take place at the Tuks Stadium on Thursday and the kick-off is at 18:30pm.
