As the University of Limpopo received a hammering on their Varsity Football debut at the hands of the University of Johannesburg last Thursday evening, FNB Player of the Match Tebogo Mnyandu sees UJ’s comfortable victory as a marker for the rest of the season.
UJ beat the debutants 7-1 as their season went underway in Soweto.
Mnyandu scored a brace in UJ’s opening Varsity Football fixture and showcased an exceptional display of football along with his teammates.
“We made a collective effort as a team but individually I am very happy with my performance and this definitely gives us confidence going into our next game against Tuks,” says Mnyandu.
UJ are going to be facing the reigning Varsity Football champions Tuks this Thursday in Soweto.
This fixture will be a repeat of the Varsity Football final two years ago, where Tuks beat UJ 2-1 to claim the title.
Tuks were stunned 2-1 by TUT at home however, as they made their first bid to defend the Varsity Football title.
When asked if he thinks UJ is ready to face Tuks, Mnyandu goes on to say: “I think we are ready, we are just going to take it a game at a time but we are definitely preparing for them.”
The atmosphere at the UJ Soweto stadium last Thursday was absolutely amazing and the UJ footballer is grateful for the fans who attended the match.

“The fans must continue coming to the games to support us because it’s very good for the team and it boosts our performance as you have seen today,” Mnyandu vocalized after the match against UL.
“But we won’t let our victory against University of Limpopo get to our heads, we still have more games to play,” he says.
