Hot off the back of their win against UWC at the recent University Sports South Africa (USSA) tournament, held at the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Port Elizabeth, the (NWU) noble boys will seek to fortify their dominance over UWC in this week’s encounter as they face off against the University of Western Cape (UWC) in a 2018 Varsity Football televised home game at the NWU Mahikeng stadium.
Having been dumped out of the 2017 Varsity Football tournament in the group stages by Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), the NWU Varsity Football team will be heading into this week’s encounter with one important lesson in mind – that skill on the pitch must be met with an undying determination and will to excel at all costs.
“We learned an important lesson with the defeat we suffered at the hands of TUT at the last group stages of last year’s tournament. Team work makes the dream work. That is the most valuable lesson than any loss could ever teach. Of course, and it doesn’t hurt to be a team with one of the best supporters in this tournament. The NWU wave of supporters is the tsunami that will propel us forward,” said NWU Varsity Football club manager, Vuyolwethu Sambo.
The encounter between the NWU varsity football team and the University of Western Cape will be broadcast live on Supersport Select.
NWU will be led by Wendelle Martin this season.
You may remember his stunning strike last season, which was one of the goals of the season!
