Not even on the podium when the Thabooty Drive competed at the first Varsity Athletics meeting earlier this month, Msizi James stunned fans with a blistering practice run ahead of tomorrow’s second meeting.
As Varsity Athletics draws to a close with the top universities poised for a photo-finish, there is another battle going on, as the DJs of 5fm’s Thabooty Drive look to put their skills to the test after some grueling professional training since the last meeting.
On 2 March, Thando Thabete impressed with the javelin, while Duran Collett showed power in the shotput. But Msizi James, who was nowhere to be seen, has made a late surge for the podium spot.

Last week, James flew out of the blocks against his fellow competitors to only narrowly be defeated by a professional sprinter.

Thabooty Drive listeners will be familiar with Msizi’s quick wit and how swiftly he’s able to read through radio scripts with effortlessness. But it may come as a surprise that he possesses a different sort of speed on the track.
Who will impress most tomorrow afternoon? Will Duran muscle his way past his fellow DJs, can Thando take it up a notch, or will Msizi’s walk back up his talk?
Tune in to 5fm and catch all the action live in SuperSport to find out.
