The defending champions Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) claimed their second victory in the Varsity Women’s Football tournament after they beat the University of Free State (Kovsies) with a score of 3-0 in Potchefstroom on Friday afternoon.
The first half of the encounter between TUT and Kovsies belonged to the defending champions who took the early lead before the break.
In the opening minutes it was Dikgale Salome from TUT who found the back of the net to open the score at 1-0 for her team. Bontle Mashilo followed up her teammate’s footsteps to leave her side 2-0 up as they entered half time. But TUT were wasting their opportunities as the side from the Free State kept their defence tight.
After the break TUT showed why they are the reigning champions as Salome Kekana showed brilliant individual play when she dribbled and struck to extend the lead to 3-0 for her team.
The scoreboard did not reflect the way in which the women of Kovsies fought during the match as they faced a defeat of 3-0.
