With two rounds left in the Varsity Netball tournament, the Madibaz ladies look to seal their semi-final spot.
After finishing in fourth place last year, and never having won the Varsity Netball tournament, the ladies look to finish strongly against NWU on Monday and Maties the following week. NMU are currently sitting in fifth place after the first five rounds, winning three and losing two, but to finish in the top four is not an easy task.
With Maties currently sitting in fourth place, two points ahead, the win in round seven against them would propel them above, into the fourth semi-final spot. Before that though, their sixth round fixture against NWU will be the true test of the Madibaz ladies’ capabilities. The ladies from Potchefstroom are sitting comfortably in first place on the log, having won five out of five matches. The tournament is still very close and any single win could switch up the entire table.
NMU will be looking to take advantage of their home fixture and make amends for their loss against Tuks at home. Winning such a big match will boost all confidence levels and the belief will be there if they make it through to the knockout stages.
In the five years of Varsity Netball, NMU’s highest finish has been third, but with the competition so close at the top of the log, and evenly spread out, anything is possible. And NMU have high hopes looking for that maiden title win.
Be there to show your support at the NMU Indoor Centre on Monday 18th September, as NMU take on first place North-West University, looking to climb the log and confirm their spot in the semi-finals before the last round.
