UJ’s Kim-roché Holmes still believes the squad has what it takes to finish the season in a good position, despite their disappointing performances in the competition thus far.
The Auckland Park side have continued to struggle in their campaign after losing 64-24 to log leaders Maties last weekend, lowering them further down the pecking order. Without a solid change in performance and a few wins under their belt, UJ risk their spot in the elite league for the upcoming seasons.
Holmes said it has not been easy recently but they have still remained hopeful for a change in results.
“We’ve worked very hard but the results just haven’t come like we’ve wished for,” she said. “And following on from the USSA [University Sports South Africa Netball Tournament] where we were performing well, we really thought that we were going to climb the ladder, but things just haven’t worked out for us. But I’m sure things will get better from next weekend onwards.”
The Goal Attack said they are reshuffling and digging within themselves to bring their A-game for the remainder of their matches.
“I don’t think we are nervous but I also don’t think we are going to take any game lightly. We are going to go out there and play hard every game and make as if we are playing against one of the top teams. We’re really going to give it everything we’ve got; it doesn’t matter who our opponents are.”
Holmes adds that their mandate for the term has been clear and they are striving hard to meet to the principles set.
“I think our expectations are very high, seeing that we set the tone at the USSAs, but I still think that we can reach our goals. For us, it doesn’t matter what the standards are, but for the coach to set standards for the players, I think it’s perfect.”
