The fifth season of Varsity Football got off to a flying start. The South African inter-university soccer tournament’s pay-off line is #Iyachesa, roughly translating to “It’s hot”. The action certainly lived up to the #Iyachesa tag as CUT stunned UJ with a 1-0 victory in Bloemfontein while UWC thrashed Wits 6-0 at the UWC Sports Stadium. Social media went crazy with #VarsityFootball and #Iyachesa.

UWC responded to a supporter saying that only TUT and Tuks would make up the 2017 semi-finals, the rest would just be making up the numbers. UWC’s response was witty:

TUT equalised in the 94th minute, denying UP-Tuks victory at the TUT Stadium. The goal was a stunner, but that was soon forgotten as TUT head coach, Bushy Moloi’s dance became the talk of the town:
