Nine out of the 12 players that have been chosen to represent the South African U20 netball team in December, played Varsity Netball this year.
In fact, the only three members in the team that did not play for a university team in this year’s competition are from KwaZulu-Natal, who does not have a team in Varsity Netball.
The South African team, who will participate in the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Games in Angola, will be coached by Jenny van Dyk of UP-Tuks. She also coached the team two years ago when they finished second behind Zimbabwe.
Amongst the 12 players, the defenders Jasmine Ziegelmeier (Tuks) and Melodine Jacobs (Madibaz) and shooters Bianca Blom (Madibaz) and Danelle Lochner (Kovsies) featured the most regularly for their respective teams.
Pukke, with four players, has the biggest representation in the team.
