Letago Madiba, Lebogang Rakhuduwe, Amogelang Motau and Bontle Mashilo have all been included in the squad for the senior women’s national team’s international friendly match against Egypt, at Makhulong Stadium, on Saturday 22 October 2016.
The four Varsity Women’s Football players took part in the 2016 season all featured in the final at TUT in September. Letago Madiba, Lebogang Rakhuduwe and Bontle Mashilo were all on the winning side as the TUT ladies retained their title with a 1-0 victory over UWC, while Amogelang Motau featured for the runners-up.
These ladies have been included in a Banyana Banyana squad preparing for the Women Africa Cup of Nations championships next month. The squad will be led by interim Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis.
“Varsity Sports is proud of these four ladies for their selection for the national team,” said Varsity Women’s Football Code Manager, Xhanti-Lomzi Nesi. “The quality we saw this season was exceptional, so it’s no surprise to us that a number of ladies have been selected.
“We’re just happy to offer them a platform to be seen and to showcase their ability. Hopefully this will encourage our women’s football stars of the future, as Varsity Women’s Football continues to grow and hopefully strengthen the sport in our country.”
Banyana Banyana are in action against Egypt at Makhulong Stadium, on Saturday 22 October at 15:00.
