UFS and UCT scored a goal each after half-time to end their Varsity Football clash in Bloemfontein deadlocked at 1-1.
The home side showed promise in the early exchanges and enjoyed the majority of possession, but both sides struggled to create scoring opportunities as the defence’s dominated.
UCT were forced to dig deep as the home side threw everything they had at them, but they showed good organisation and managed to counter, forcing a few good saves from the UFS goalkeeper Malefane Mokhachane.
The match came alive in the second half when a handball in the box gave UFS the perfect opportunity to open the scoring, and Unathi Mabandla made no mistake as he coverted the penalty to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.
Despite that setback UCT did not give up the fight, and they were rewarded for their hard work when Wisy Namaseb grabbed a late equaliser.
After latching on to a good through ball Namaseb kept his composure to chip the goalkeeper and claim a vital point for his team away from home.
