UCT take on the Pukke this coming Monday, 26 September, at the UCT Sports Centre on Upper Campus, in what´s sure to be a clash to remember.
After a loss against Pukke in last year´s semi-final, the question on everyone´s lips in the lead up to Monday´s battle, is whether history will repeat itself again, or not. The Pukke, who are not only the defending champions of last year´s Varsity Netball, but also one of the four giants of the competition, will definitely be giving UCT a run for their money. As shown in previous matches, the UCT team will not be intimidated by this reality though. They have, up to this point, stuck to their team motto: “Give 100% till the end,” and we are sure they will carry on doing just this.
The UCT team may be the on the list of underdogs for the competition, but if we assess the progress this team has made, the results show that they are champions in their own right. The team came into this year´s competition with an entirely new squad, consisting of players studying across UCT´s faculties: from Medicine to Film and Media. Yes, their diversity is there in academic backgrounds, as well as in each team player´s individual spark.
Every individual team player has brought something special to the table, giving UCT the necessary skills required to stay composed, have good team camaraderie and keep their cool and confident nature on the court.
As Fortuna Bagula, UCT´s vice-captain and most versatile player on their squad, said after Monday´s game against Maties, the team are in high hopes, going back to the drawing board and reassessing any errors in their basics. UCT´s main goals before each game thus far, have been to remain consistent in attack and defence and, most importantly, to have fun on the court and try their best.
This is exactly what the ladies in blue aim to do, leading up to the Pukke game. So #ShowYourColours by bringing some proud UCT-blue gees in support of the squad this coming Monday.
You can catch all the action on SuperSport Select, at Channel 210, on Monday (26th September) at 18:00pm.
