Undefeated TUT overcame a resilient Pukke 3-0 to progress to the 2016 Varsity Women’s Football final at Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
Rachel Sebati had an opportunity to give TUT the lead off a penalty attempt, following a foul in the box 13 minutes in. But her shot found the right upright and shot out, the score remaining 0-0.
TUT piled on the pressure and an incredible fingertip save by Regirl Ngobeni kept Pukke in it.
Letago Madiba was constantly hassling the Pukke defence and after 16 minutes she handed her team the lead, finishing off after Rachel Sebati’s shot hit the left post and bounced out to the feet of Madiba.
Minutes later she had a brace, receiving the ball inside the box to tuck it away into the corner, unchallenged.
Tempers flared in the second half, as a few robust challenges had the medics on the park and coaches insisting the referee goes to her pocket.
TUT put the result beyond doubt 10 minutes before full time, when Rachel Sebati paced her way past the last defender before rounding the keeper to tap in, making it 3-0. Pukke couldn’t reply. TUT’s Lebogang Rakhuduwe bossed the midfield and if it weren’t for Pukke keeper Regirl Ngobeni, it could have been worse.
TUT fans will be booking their seats at this year’s final, with both their men’s and women’s teams in action on Thursday at TUT Stadium.
