TUT continued with their winning spree when they beat CUT 4-0 in the Varsity Football match played at the TUT Stadium on Monday.
TUT needed this victory to guarantee themselves top four position on the log and book themselves a ticket to the semi-finals. The home team was the better side, particularly in the first half where they were all over CUT. TUT opened the flood gates in the 12th minute with a superb goal by Thabang Motau, who scored straight from the corner kick to send the home crowd into a frenzy. The home team continued to press for more goals and were duly rewarded this time when Sipho Sibiya got himself on the score sheet with a stunning header after corner kick by Motau.
The game went into a breather with TUT still in the driving seat and leading 2-0. CUT came back in the second half a better team and threatened TUT keeper Dumsani Msibi on few occasions. The visitors had the chance to reduce the deficit in the 58th minute when defender Rorisang Rapelang handled ball inside 18-yard box. Vusi Vena stepped up to take the penalty but found Msibi in an uncompromising mood to deny the CUT player a goal.
Varsity Football’s current top goal scorer, Jacob Hlalele, brought the Tshwane-based side back into the game in the 75th minute after a beautiful interchange of passes between himself and Collen Ribabu, to beat CUT keeper Zolani Ligunya. Second half substitute Tumelo Mowa hit the last nail in the CUT coffin in the 80th minute after finishing off a rebound shot after Ligunya had parried off Motau’s shot. The four goals were enough to send TUT to yet another victory as they maintained their position at the top of the log.
