It didn’t take long for us to realise that it was going to be an in-form season for Varsity Football fans on social media. It was as early as the first match of the season that we knew Varsity Football fans’ Twitter game is oh so strong. NWU-Mafikeng’s defence was looking about as sturdy as a unicycle on a sand dune. And before long UJ were 6-2 up. That’s when Varsity Football fans displayed their creative flair on social media.
Throughout the season we’ve seen a few sharp memes, hilarious crowd posters, and a fair share of quality banter. So when a photographer captured a comical moment in UJ’s match against TUT on Monday evening, Varsity Sports wasted no time in handing that material over to the fans to do what they do best.
It should be no surprise that as usual, their response was on point. Fans were asked to caption an image of one of UJ’s players stretched out in mid air, held aloft by a TUT player, looking as if he was flying. Here are just a few of the best:
