Wits University and NWU-Mafikeng did not play their fixture in Varsity Football this past Monday, due to Wits having a few representatives at national level over the past week. This coming week however, Wits will be back in action, when they take a bus trip to Bloemfontein, to take on CUT.
The past week saw no action from Wits due to three of their players in captain Kaizer Maphanga, Mahle Mtabane and Tshireletso Motsogi being away on junior national duty. Tshireletso Motsogi is a first-year at Wits university, whom is already involved heavily with Wits FC.
Wits captain and defender Maphanga has, however, represented South Africa at junior level before, when he took part in the world university games in South Korea, in 2015.
Mahle Mtabane on the other hand, has a lot to be proud of himself, after representing South Africa at the CUCSA games in Zambia, which took place in 2014. His university honours do not stop there, because he also represented USSA U/21 at the SAB U/21 national championship for two years in a row, in 2014 and 2015.
Wits will, however, be glad to have these players back, when they continue with their quest, to search for their first win after having lost their first game and playing their second one to a stalemate. They take on a fairly unpredictable CUT side, who on their day could dismantle anybody.
The Wits coaching staff look to have stuck with more or less the same starting 11 as their previous game against UWC. With FNB Man-of-the-Match and Kaizer Chiefs trialist Brylon Petersen maintaining his spot in between the sticks.
The game will kick off at 16.30pm on Monday afternoon at the CUT stadium and will be televised live on SuperSport.
Wits starting XI for CUT game: Brylon Petersen, Snethemba Msane, Kaizer Maphanga, Obert Rukato Jr, Baliwe Moyakhe, Tshireletso Motsogi, Saluleko Mathonsi, Mahle Mtabane, Graeme Dor, Mahudu Seageng, Lyndon Crouch
Subs: Sthembiso Zuke, Tristan Gatter, Keamogetswe Mokalake, Luke Pereira, Hlohonolofatso Mahate, Vuyo Qhwesha, Shaun Matintela
