TUT put themselves at the top of the Varsity Football table after their 1-0 victory over Tuks last night. Team goalkeeper, Dumsani Msibi says he is ready to share his prize money with his teammates, after he was named FNB Man of the Match during the Varsity Football game against Tuks in Tshwane last night.
TUT beat Tuks by 1-0 to claim bragging rights and climbed to the top of the Varsity Football standings with six points. Msibi denied the home team many goal-scoring opportunities with a string of brilliant saves.
The former Under-20 National Team captain has dedicated his FNB Man of the Match award to his teammates.
“First of all, I want to thank Varsity Football for giving such a great platform to amateur football players to showcase their talent and get chance to be professionals one day,” said Msibi.
“I am feeling privileged and honoured to receive such an award. It’s one of the things I will cherish for long time. If wasn’t for my teammates I don’t think I would have won this award. Credit should go to the whole team, we played as a unit from the back right to the front,” he added.
Msibi, who is also under the books of SuperSport United, believes TUT has a chance to win the Varsity Football Tournament this year. TUT lost 2-1 against UWC in the Varsity Football final last year.
“TUT has massive opportunity,” said Msibi. “The same with other teams – everyone has an opportunity this year. But as long as we believe, we can make it. Talent alone is not enough, but hard work and the right attitude can help us succeed in the tournament.”
Msibi is currently doing his second year of studies in Sports Management at TUT and has made a lot of sacrifices for both his academic work and football career, at a professional level.
“It takes lot of sacrifices,” said Msibi. “But I have a lot of important people in my life – family and friends. Going to class and then to training is not easy, but I am grateful for the support I receive from all the people close to me.”
