TUT were beaten 2-1 in the 2015 Varsity Football final, in front of capacity crowd, as they lost out on the trophy to UWC. However the Tshwane-based side is determined to regain their dented image this year, beginning with a clash against Wits in their opening game of the 2016 Varsity Football season, at the TUT stadium on Monday.
“It was a sad moment for us (to lose during the final),” said captain, Elliot Seema.
“We have learnt the lesson. We know what we did wrong and this time we want to do things differently.
“It’s important to win all our games, to get the advantage of playing home games during the semi-finals and the final. It’s difficult to play away from home without our own supporters and this time we want to take the finals to Pretoria,” he added.
TUT are set kick off their campaign in the Varsity Football tournament this year with a clash against Wits at the TUT Stadium on Monday. Seema believes that his charges have all it takes to defeat Wits and emerge with three points at home on Monday.
“They (Wits) are a good team but I believe we are better than them,” he said. “We have to wait and see on Monday, but they always say that football has no therefore, so we are not going take anything for granted and we’ll be focused. We want to have a good start and a win on Monday will determine how far we can go during the tournament.”
