Varsity Sports is proud to welcome the University of KwaZulu-Natal and University of Venda, as the 20th and 21st member universities of Varsity Sports. They join the existing 19 universities involved in the numerous Varsity Sports sporting codes and competitions.
“We are excited to expand our footprint to UKZN and UV (University of Venda),” said University Sport Company CEO, Flip van Zyl. “We hope that teams of these institutions qualify for the next season of Varsity Sports.
“UKZN is the second university in KwaZulu-Natal to join and we are proud to have them as a member. And by having UV join, we are able to take the Varsity Sports product to Thohoyandou, which should help them to develop sport within their region,” Van Zyl added.
“The University of KwaZulu-Natal is pleased to be part of Varsity Sports,” said Executive Director for Student Services, Dr. Sibusiso Chalufu. “We look forward to a long and productive relationship in developing our student sports. As a leading research-intensive and research-led university in South Africa, UKZN is also home to a number of sport heroes and heroines, who are our alumni, such as legend cricketer Jonty Rhodes, former Springbok captain Gary Teichmann and current winner of the K2 Duzi Canoe Marathon, Andrew Bikkert.
“We pride ourselves in developing and producing top class sportsmen and sportswomen and we are confident that our new journey with Varsity Sports will create a perfect environment for our sport stars to continue to shine on and off the field.”
Following the University of Mpumalanga, Mangosuthu University of Technology and University of Zululand, the University of KwaZulu-Natal and University of Venda are the fourth and fifth universities to join Varsity Sports in 2016.
