Kovsies vs UCT (Plate Semi-Final)
Kovsies overcame UCT in the first Plate semi-final in what was probably their best performance of the competition so far. The sides were all square at the break with 7-7 though tries by Neil Stannard for Kovsies and Gareth Ehret for UCT, although UCT did most of the playing and had the territory and possession advantage.
Kovsies started the second half in an emphatic way when Stephan Janse van Rensburg, TJ Goddard and Pieter Faber all scored within the first two minutes of the half to open up a 19 point lead over the Cape Town outfit. Kovsies hang on for a 26-7 victory.

NMMU vs UJ (Plate Semi-Final)
UJ will play Kovsies in the Plate final of the Varsity 7s after they beat the NMMU Madibaz 24-5. UJ held a 19-0 lead at half time after some great tries by Ronald Brown, Juandre Michau and Curt Ruiters.
The second half was a much tighter affair however, with both sides only scoring once. NMMU got the first try of the second half, through Nathan Gogela, while Odwa Nkunjana sealed the game for UJ with a try after the hooter.

Pukke vs UWC (Cup Semi-Final)
UWC saw off Pukke in the first Cup semi-final of Varsity 7s after they beat the men from the North West 14-12 UWC took a 7-0 lead into the half time break in a very tight first half. Jeremy Papier scored for UWC after some strong work through a tackle to dot down under the posts.
UWC continued to be the more dominant side in the match after Minenhle Mtetwa scored shortly after the restart for the men from Cape Town to extend UWC’s lead to 14 points. Eugene Hare got one back for Pukke however, to give his side a chance in the final two minutes of the match, before Ian Heyns scored Pukke’s second try to get them within 2 points with time up on the clock. UWC hung on to claim their spot in the Cup final.

Maties vs Tuks (Cup Semi-Final)
Maties overcame Tuks in the second Cup semi-final after they beat the men from Pretoria 12-5 in an extremely tight encounter. Maties will now face UWC in the Cup final of the Varsity 7s in an all Western Cape final. The sides were all even, 5-5 at the break as Tuks threatened to score again towards the end of the first half but handling let them down.
Brandon Asher-Wood scored the first try for Maties, before Hein Schoeman got one back for Tuks.
The second half only saw the one try from Maties, Kyle Steyn ran from his own half to score in the corner. Pierre du Toit converted as Maties held on for the 12-5 win.

WSU vs UFH (Shield Final)
The University of Fort Hare were crowned Shield Champions after they beat rivals, University of Walter Sisulu 12-7.WSU took a 7-5 lead into the half time break, after they were awarded a penalty try after a high tackle by an UFH player. Zanoxolo Qwele scored the opening try of the match for UFH after he beat some tacklers to go over in the corner.
Luyolo Bathise scored for UFH in the second half as his side dominated the second half. UFH eventually hung on to win the match.
