The University of the Western Cape will be gracious hosts off the sand but come game time the defending champions will only settle for victories at the 2016 Varsity Beach Volleyball tournament.
UWC will be relishing their home ground advantage but last year’s captain Bejancke Della is not resting on her team’s laurels.
“We know that all the other teams are out to beat us and we have a plan for the tournament. In fact, we have multiple ¬– so we are ready. It definitely helps that we have former Olympian, Grant Goldsmith, as our coach,” said the third year LLB student.
“We have targeted VUT and Tuks as our biggest threats at the upcoming tournament. VUT have a few new faces that we know very little about while we expect Tuks to bring their A game,” Della addded.
UWC will square off against Kovsies (UFS), UCT and VUT in Round One (4 May) and will look to defeat Tuks and the University of Limpopo in Round Two (5 May).
