Wits fought back well to salvage a 1-1 draw with UCT in their opening Varsity Hockey clash in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
The Cape side took the early lead when Stacey Morley-Jepson took her opportunity well to score the opening goal in the first period.
However, Wits kept themselves right in the match with some determined play and were rewarded when Demi du Toit grabbed the equaliser in the second period.
The teams threw everything at each other in the final stages as they looked to snatch a dramatic victory, but they would have to be satisfied with sharing the points at the end.
Wits’ Kirstie Thompson was awarded the player of the macth award whilst Zimi Shange was adjudged to be goal-saver of the match.
Wits face UJ on Sunday as the Johannesburg side look to bounce back from their defeat to UP-Tuks, and UCT will face Kovsies who blew NMMU away 4-0.
The scorers:
For UCT: Stacey Morley-Jepson
For Wits: Demi du Toit
