Pukke striker Sulette Damons got a double as her team saw off the dangerous Maties 2-0 on home turf in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
Damons showed just why she will be travelling to China later this year as she calmly finished both of her opportunities from open play to get her side off to a winning start in their Varsity Hockey campaign.
After a goalless first period, Pukke took control with Olympian Damons scoring in the second and third period to seal the victory.
Maties will have to regroup quickly, with another tough clash against UP-Tuks on Sunday, whilst Pukke will head into their encounter with NMMU with plenty of confidence.
