Defending champions UFS-Kovsies maintained their unbeaten run with bonus point 71-31 victory over NMMU-Madibaz in Pretoria on Sunday.
The Bloemfontein ladies were in an unstoppable mood as they outscored their coastal opponents in each quarter to claim their fourth consecutive win and third bonus point of the competition.
Kovsies came out strong in the opening minutes to take an 11-4 lead after nine minutes before the Bloemfontein ladies pressed home their advantage to score a further six points and restrict the Madibaz to just two, as they led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The dominance continued as Kovsies stretched their lead to 20-8 within the first five minutes of the resumption before sinking a further five points with six minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Madibaz managed to grab six points before half-time but it was not enough as Kovsies went into the break with a 30-14 lead.
Kovsies maintained their stranglehold over the Madibaz in the third quarter and despite the game somewhat slowing down, the Bloemfontein ladies managed to extend their lead to 37-17 with six minutes remaining in the quarter.
They added a further five points before calling for the first powerplay of the match but neither side could rack up the points as Kovsies ended the third quarter with a 47-19 lead.
Kovsies wasted no time in bringing up their bonus point and the Madibaz called for the second powerplay with the score sitting at 50-19 in favour of the Bloem ladies.
There was no stopping the defending champions from that point as they stretched their lead to 60-21 at the conclusion of the powerplay. With just four minutes remaining in the contest, Kovsies held an unassailable 66-26 lead before closing out the match to hand the Port Elizabeth ladies their second defeat of the competition.
