Maties continued their fine Varsity Netball form with a resounding 72-32 bonus point win over UJ in Pretoria on Sunday.
It was one-way traffic in the opening Round Four encounter as the Stellenbosch ladies outscored their opponents in every quarter to secure their victory of the competition.
Maties looked good in the opening exchanges and raced to an early lead before opting to enforce the powerplay with the score sitting at 15-6 in their favour. They pressed home there advantage to take a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Stellenbosch ladies did not let up in the second quarter as they added a further 17 points while restricting UJ to just five points to take a commanding 39-13 lead at the half-time break.
UJ had absolutely no answer to Maties’ dominance in the third quarter as the Johannesburg ladies were able to add just nine points to their total while they conceded 18 points in the process. This meant that Maties brought up their bonus point as they went into the final break holding a commanding 57-22 lead.
Maties picked up where they left off at the start of the final quarter to stretch their lead to 62-25 before UJ called for the second powerplay of the match.
UJ could not take full advantage of the double points on offer in the powerful and had to settle for their third defeat of the competition.
