There were massive wins for UWC and NWU-PUKKE Ladies football teams in round two matches played last night in Pretoria and in Vaal.
Tuks Ladies football hosted the Cape side, UWC Ladies football in a very heavily contested match. Tuks need to win to ensure themselves as pool winners and play in the final. UWC had other ideas. The game was a stalemate at half time with score at 0 – 0. Soon after the break a quick two goals from UWC’s Banyana Banyana player Rachel Sebati stunned the home crowd and UWC were in the driving seat.
Tuks tried hard to fight back and a miss by Phidah Chego in front of goal proved that it was not Tuks’ day. The game was also riddled with a lot of stoppages for injuries and the paramedics earned their money last night for sure. Tuks finally pulled a goal back through Lebogang Mabatle but it was all too late. In the 4 minutes added by the referee, UWC managed to hold on to their lead and the game ended 2 – 1 to the Cape side.
In Vaal NWU-PUKKe ladies were too powerful for Vaal Ladies football as they thumped the home side 3 – 0. Mamosa Mpotle from NWU opened the scoring within 10 minutes of the half being played. Vaal Ladies got on the pitch with only 10 players and this meant they would struggle the entire match. The game was also riddled with stoppages as the ladies were giving it their all in the tackles.
The score remained at 1 – 0 at half time. In the second half a quick goal by Queen Ramaila from NWU meant that Vaal Ladies had a mountain to climb. To make matter worse a player from VUT had to be taken out of the game because of injury and with VUT having no subs meant that the girls had to carry on with 9 players left on the pitch. Queen Ramaila netted a her second goal of the game and her team’s 3rd for the night before she was also taken out of the game due to injury. The VUT goal keeper also got herself injured had to be taken off. With no time left on the clock the referee blew the final whistle and NWU-PUKKE walked away with all 3 points. Final score VUT 0 – 3 NWU-PUKKE
