VUT captain Malesela Chokoe, better known as ‘Jomo’ to his teammates, leads a strong team of players in the Varsity Football tournament but knows they have tough opposition.
The quicksilver center back, who looks up to the likes of Chelsea captain John Terry, is in his second year with the VUT team and has also captained the side since 2014.
The Limpopo-born player recently came back from South Korea where he participated in the World Student Games and says he displays his experience with each game and also shares it with his teammates, as they always work hard on perfecting their skills.
The season has started off well for Chokoe, who has been playing soccer ever since he can remember and is a firm believer in self-efficiency.
The 25-year-old has maintained discipline in the backline thus far and this young man has the makings of a true star.
The captain is in his second year of study, doing a National Diploma in Sports Management and hopes to continue playing football with hopes of going professional along the way.
Jomo has Vodacom League experience after a stint with Mighty Mega Force in the 2010/2011 season before heading to FC Buffalo, where he spent three seasons before studying at VUT in 2014.
VUT recently secured their spot in the ABC Motsepe League under Chokoe’s leadership and the guidance of coach Gomma Masango.
