TUT handed Wits their first home loss of the 2015 Varsity Football campaign when they claimed a 2-0 victory in a tense encounter.
The home side will be kicking themselves for squandering numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game while TUT will happy to have bounced back from their Round Three defeat.
Sokanyile Masonwabe stunned the home crowd in the fourth minute when he sneaked onto the back post and latched onto a Khomotso Ledwaba cross to steer the ball into the Wits goal.
Both sides got stuck into their opponents with some brutal tackles and TUT nearly doubled their lead through Selby Madibana in the 18th minute but his effort smashed off the crossbar.
Some players found themselves on the wrong end of tough challenges as the tackles were getting harder by the minute. Chances were created at both ends as the half came to an end but neither side could add to the scoreboard before the interval.
Lyndon Crouch nearly brought the home side level early in the second half but his shot from range was well saved by Lloyd Morulane in the TUT goal as the home side made early inroads.
The game remained open with chances at both ends, however, it was the home side who had the better chances by the hour mark but lacked the final touch to get themselves back on level terms.
It was all Wits from that point as they pressed hard for the equaliser but try as they might, they could just not find the back of the net. A change was needed and the introduction of Graeme ‘Mlungu’ Dor made an immediate as he showed superb control to fend off defenders and get a shot on target, only to be denied by Morulane.
It went from bad to worse for the home side when they found themselves trailing by two goals after Selby Madibana sent Petersen the wrong way from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. Vuyo Qwesha brought Sidney Seromo down in the box and the Wits player was shown his second yellow card and given his marching orders.
