There was no separating TUT and UP-Tuks as their Varsity Football clash in Tshwane ended deadlocked at 0-0.
The stalemate brought the opening round to a conclusion, leaving WSU with their noses in front with the only win and six players tied in second place following three goalless draws.
UP-Tuks wasted no time in employing their familiar brand of direct football, getting the ball forward and looking to put the TUT defence under pressure early on.
However, TUT had the first clear shot on goal as Themba Ndlovu glanced a long-range shot off the side of the upright.
The visitors responded with a free-kick from their dead-ball specialist Jeremiah Nkwana, but he was not able to trouble TUT goalkeeper King Ndlovu.
There were chances at both ends as the game opened up, with some fearsome tackles flying in what was a highly physical encounter.
Despite the open nature of the game there were no goals in the first half as they went into the break with the game locked at 0-0.
The second half was just as tight, with neither side willing to give an inch and chances few and far between.
Jeremiah Nkwana had a good opportunity to open the scoring when got a ball at the back post from Mbongeni Masilela, but his volley flashed wide.
The game opened up in the dying stages, with both teams keen to grab a decisive late goal
