Wits coach Gavin Hunt was impressed with the level of football he watched at the Wits stadium in the opening Varsity Football match on Monday.
The two times SA football coach of the year, who won three Premier Soccer League titles, is looking to sign a young player from the tournament.
Wits’ PSL side were on a 10 day training camp in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape as part of their pre-season camp and upon their return the Clever Boys coach went to watch the Varsity Football team.
Hunt said that the standard of football at the popular varsity tournament was impressive.
“This is a great platform for young players to showcase their talent. You could see that it was the first game and the players were a bit nervous, but the nerves will settle down as they get involved in more matches,” he said.
Hunt is a fan of young players and he would like to try out a promising talent from the Wits team.
“I have discovered a couple of young players in the past and we have to give those who are willing to grab the opportunity with both hands an opportunity to fulfil their dreams. We will keep on looking for promising players,” he said.
Expect Hunt to be a regular guest at the Wits Stadium if they are no PSL commitments.
