UWC waltzed to a comfortable nine wicket victory over Kovsies in the final Varsity Cricket match in Potchefstroom on Friday.
The Cape side bowled Kovsies out for 90 ad the knocked off the runs in just overs to hand the Free State outfit their fifth defeat of the competition.
The match got off to the worst possible start for Kovsies, with Jacobus Dreyer run out in the first over without facing a ball.
His opening partner Andries Gous departed in the fifth over when he was caught on the boundary for 13, as UWC turned on the pressure.
Things went from bad to worse as first Leus du Plooy was caught behind off the bowling of Imraan Hendricks for 19 and then Dirk Bruwer suffered the same fate shortly afterwards at the hands of Reeve Cyster.
That left Kovsies on 54/4 at the halfway stage of their innings, and the wickets kept falling with Corne Dry clean bowled by Jason Smith and Ian Finlay stumped off Lesiba Ngoepe.
The wickets continued to tumble and Kovsies were eventually all out for 90 after 17.5 overs.
UWC made a steady start to their innings as Kovsies battled to make a breakthrough, and their openers managed to bring up the 50 after just seven overs.
George Banda was in particularly fine form as he took the attack to the Kovsies bowlers, and managed to notch his half-century, but not before losing his opening partner Ashley Cupido.
