NWU-Pukke were impressive in their 65-49 Varsity Netball victory against UJ in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
Last year’s beaten finalists made it two wins from their first two games, whilst it was a first defeat for UJ.
The hosts made a fast start and scored five unanswered goals from the word go. The game was being played at an incredible pace, but Pukke made the most of their opportunities and led 20-9 at the first break.
UJ regrouped and managed to put some pressure on Pukke in the second quarter as they started to fight their way back into the contest.
However, Pukke were having none of that and a dominant burst just before the break saw them take a healthy 33-21 lead into half-time.
The home side made some substitutions at half-time, including their captain Nadia Uys, but that did not knock them off their stride as the goals kept coming for sharpshooter Chante Steyn.
By the final break Pukke were 47-33 up, and the only thing left for them was to claim the bonus point.
They did so without fuss and closed out what was a convincing win in the end to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.
