Defending Varsity Netball champions Kovsies notched their first victory of 2014 with a 71-17 demolition of UCT in Potchefstroom.
Having gone down to UP-Tuks on home soil in Round One, Kovsies bounced back in fine style whilst for UCT it was a second defeat on the trot.
Kovsies took control of the game early on and went 7-3 up early on. Both teams were making basic errors in the first quarter, but things were looking tough for UCT who trailed 15-8 at the first break.
The Bloemfontein side took things up a gear in the second quarter and left the Ikeys chasing the game at 25-8 down.
By half-time Kovsies had built up a commanding 42-10 lead, leaving UCT with it all to do in the second half.
Kovsies did not take their foot off the gas, and wrapped up the bonus point in the third quarter as UCT battled to keep up.
By the final break Kovsies were ahead 59-14, and although the final quarter lacked the intensity of the first three, there was no denying Kovsies their forst win of the competition.
