Giant killers UJ will be keen to get back to winning ways when they host Varsity Football strugglers UCT in Soweto on Monday night.
The visitors are currently bottom of the standings after bagging just one point from four games played, and will no doubt find life difficult in the soccer-crazy suburb next week.
Earlier this week UCT slumped to a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of a NWU and Bradley Carnell’s men will look to take advantage of the wounded Warriors despite the Cape side producing a mid-week USSA win.
The home team will want to impress their home supporters after a 2-2 draw against UFS-Kovsies in a match which saw captain, Grant Bruchhausen, sent off for dissent. The captain will miss the clash against UCT due to suspension.
UJ are now in fourth position on the log with two wins and two draws under their belts. The Johannesburg students produced a particularly outstanding performance against 2013 champions UP-Tuks, who they overcame 4-0.
The Warriors are yet to bring in a win and will be looking to throw everything they’ve got into this match.
UCT coach Rowan Hendricks said, “We need to defend much better, be more organized and assist each other in every department.
“In the next three matches I’ve told the team to leave it all on the field as some of them will be graduating and it’s their first or last Varsity Cup.”
