After notching their second straight win, Kovsies find themselves in third position on the Varsity Football standings.
The Free State side followed up their win over Limpopo with a hard-fought 2-1 over UWC in difficult conditions in Bellville on Monday.
They were forced to come from behind, but fought back well to claim the three points and coach Godfrey Tenoff said that he was proud of the character his side showed under pressure.
“We knew winning this game was going to be a battle.
“They were worthy opponents. We expected a different play from them, which in turn forced us to change our initial apporoach,” he said.
Having an appetite for competition is one of Kovsies’ main characteristics added Tenoff.
“The team was motivated, even more than the previous game and it’s good to see each team mate making a contribution to the game,” he said.
After being encouraged to play more offensively, Dumisani Tjemolane and Andile Bantshi scored.
Tenoff adds that he would like to change as little as possible to the team. If anything, he would include some more creativity.
Tenoff said that he is extremely proud of his team for stepping up.
“Anytime your team can fight from a goal down in tough conditions as a coach you have to applaud them.”
He also encouraged UFS, Bloemfontein and Mangaung residents to come and enjoy the next home game against UJ, which could see them climb even further up the log.
