Sandile Mbatha has been regarded as the attacking catalyst of the current North-West University Varsity Football squad.
This was evident when he scored the first goal of the 2014 Varsity Sports football competition during their first game against Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University on the 21 July 2014 which ended a 2-2 stalemate.
This central attacking midfielder was born in a small village called Mandini in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal. He is presently studying a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration.
His team mates can rely on him through his creative, precise and accurate passes for attack.
When asked how he felt about scoring the first goal of the tournament Mbatha had this to say:
“I was very excited .It also boasted my confidence as player ahead of this all important competition.”
Mbatha was part of the NWU 2013 Varsity football team and he feels he has learned a lot from the previous tournament.
“I played with matured, experienced and interesting players last year, who have now completed their studies. I must now take the responsibility to guide the young players through the experience I accumulated last year,” he said.
Mbatha, who was very instrumental during their home win against UWC, would like to see himself playing for Professional Soccer League team one day.
