UWC led the way in the first day of Varsity Sports Beach Volleyball action, finishing as the only unbeaten team in Plettenberg Bay.
After getting their campaign off to a positive start with a 35-13 victory over Cape rivals UCT, the team from UWC never looked back and went on to win all five of their matches to top the standings.
They are followed closely by UJ and UP-Tuks, who both lost just one of their matches to secure tied second place on the standings.
The only match that a competitive UP-Tuks side lost was their tense clash with UJ, which the side from Johannesburg edged 29-27 – a thrilling encounter.
Following their opening loss to the dominant UWC, UCT bounced back well and won two of their matches to end Friday well in the hunt and level on log points with Limpopo who also managed two victories.
It was a tough day out on court for both NMMU and TUT however, as both sides failed to register a victory and ended up propping up the standings.
