UJ’s Anel Oosthuizen is the national junior and senior 10 000m racewalking champion already, and is aiming to compete at the next Olympic games in 2016.
The first year student has had an incredible year so far, and she admitted that her ultimate goal is to travel to Rio in two years time.
“What motivates me? Everyone has dreams, and to qualify for Olympics is my dream. Anyone who has a dream is willing to work hard at it to reach that dream.
“So, my dream and the people around me is what motivates me. Everyone is really supportive and motivating, it helps a lot,” she explained.
Oosthuizen is looking forward to competing in the Varsity Athletics tournament in Stellenbosch, although she is a little nervous.
“I’m really looking forward to it even though I’m a bit nervous (but that’s adrenalin). The vibe
helps a lot, it makes or breaks a race and all of the support helps a lot,” she said.
Having grown up in George, the 18-year-old has had to make some adjustments to big city life in Johannesburg, but she is enjoying it despite being away from her family.
