Still no team has been able to go through a Varsity Netball competition unbeaten. This after UP-Tuks lost their one and only match in the final against NWU-Pukke.

The goal difference in the final, which is the closest of the four finals thus far. Pukke’s rugby team also won their final against Maties this year by a single point.

Marlize de Bruin, centre court player of Tuks, received her third FNB Player of the Match award for 2016 and her fourth in total. This places her joint fourth for the most awards in the four years of the competition.

Despite her side ending on the losing side, Tuks captain Shadine van der Merwe still had a brilliant game, managing five intercepts – the most in the game. She was named Player of the Tournament.

Pukke scored six goals in the two power plays, counting for 12 goals. Tuks only managed four goals (counting for eight) in that four-minute period, which was their joint second least in the series.

Lenize Potgieter, goal shooter and goal attack of Tuks, sunk 30 from 31 attempts for a brilliant 97%. She ended with the best shooting stats in the competition – 148 successful goals out of 161 attempts.

The second most goals Tuks have conceded in their 34 matches played in Varsity Netball from 2013 to 2016. It was also the first time that 50 or more goals were scored against them this year.
