Both semi-finals were tightly contested affairs but, in the end, both home sides made it through to a highly-expected final between the University of Johannesburg and the Technical University of Tshwane.
The defending champions UJ beat the North-West University 2-0, while TUT beat Kovsies by the same score line and the two players below caught the eyes of our Varsity Football scouts.

Advocate Mokwena (UJ)
The UJ attacking midfielder has had a standout campaign in 2022 Varsity Football so far, helping his side to reach back-to-back finals.
On Thursday, Mokwena netted his side’s first goal to give them the all-important lead after they had rattled the crossbar twice and nerves were starting to show.
However, Mokwena appeared in the box at the right spot at the right time to hand his side a lead in the 65th minute, which they later added onto through Thulani Zandamela.
Mokwena also won the Man of the Match award and equally impressed our scouts.

Sanele Nene (TUT)
The other semi-final between TUT and Kovsies was a more one-sided affair, as the visitors struggled to find their round-robin form.
While many fans and neutrals expected fireworks from both sets of forwards, it was TUT defender Sanele Nene who came up with the goods.
He netted his side’s much-celebrated opener in injury-time of the first half with a thumping header following a corner and was again on the scoresheet in the second half.
Many thought of a Deja Vu when Nene again scored via a header following a corner to hand his side a two-goal cushion in the 81st minute.
But he didn’t just score, he also helped his side to keep their sixth clean sheet of the campaign and it didn’t surprise many, certainly not the Varsity Football scouts, when Nene was handed a deserved Man of the Match award.
Be ready for both players once again to show their class in this week’s 2022 Varsity Football final, which kicks off at 18:00 at UJ Stadium.
