Four games, four wins, 12 goals scored and several players who impressed in Round 3 of Varsity Football action!

Njabulo Mkhize (UKZN):
UKZN may have been on the losing side but winger Mkhize was impressed with his direct running and trickery against TUT and was eventually rewarded for his efforts when he netted his first of the tournament from the spot.
Sanele Nene was an imposing figure in defence for the visitors while Tshepiso Mnisi bagged a brace on the evening, however, the slender Mkhize got the crowd off their seats every time he had the ball.
The former Golden Arrows academy talent is in his second season in Varsity Football and has been touted as one of the players who could go on and secure a professional football contract soon.

Thulani Zandamela (UJ):
Zandamela, the UJ Midfielder started the season very strongly playing as a number 10. He has contributed to the 3 UJ goals since the Round 2 fixture and he makes it easier for the forward players to get goal-scoring opportunities.
Spotted with his dreadlocks, the UJ star started the play in their opening goal last night before Sanele Ndlalane’s assist to Philani Masondo’s tap-in goal. He was very impactful, especially in the first 45 minutes, with him and Advocate Mokwena with the most forward passes in the opponent’s half.
It was just after 60 minutes when he played a dummy at the penalty and then scored a cracker with the Inner step of the soccer boot. Zandamela has 2 goals in his name in 3 fixtures and two assists, making him the standout player within the UJ squad.

Katlego Machaka (TUKS):
Machaka on Tuks left-back has been one of their standout players in their indifferent start to the season – Machaka remained solid among the squad.
Coming to the game against Noble Boys, he made crucial tackles to protect his left back and caused unrest for the NWU defence.
Most importantly is his versatility, Tuks didn’t see most of the encounter, which saw him being able to drop inside the middle of the park to assist, defending as a left-back and finding himself in good spaces for Tuks to start attacks.

Ethan Goldstone (UFS):
Ethan Goldstone has a really good outing for UFS against VUT. Especially in the second half he was running great lines and was instrumental in the goals.
Sello Diphoko also had a good game with his brace and could have scored five goals, but that was due largely due to Goldstone’s work on the evening.
